Udine, Italy

On Saturday we decided to head out and spend the day in Udine. The weather has been so beautiful and we couldn't resist visiting Udine's local market to buy some apricots and cherries, which are both in season right now. And yes the fish and lobster in the picture with the girls were both real... In fact the lobster was still alive and moving. We also decided to have lunch at one of the very few good Chinese places in the local area.

Udine is a city in northeastern Italy, in the middle of Friuli - Venezia Guilia region, between the Adriatic sea and the Alps, less than 40 km from the Slovenian border. Udine is the historical capital of Fruili. Despite its probable Roman origin, it is thought to be founded in 983 (document of Emperor Otto). The Patriarchs of Aquileia had their seat here after 1238 on. Often at war with Cividale and Venice, it was conquered by the latter in 1420 and shared its fortunes till the Napoleonic era (1797). After the Congress of Vienna it became a Hapsburg dominion until 1866 when, following the 3rd War of Independence, it was united with Italy.

As usual here are a few pictures from our day and this time I also decided to include some pictures of my new car. Isn't she beautiful!
