Family Day

Life is good. Here in Europe, our command grants us family days every once in a while to do nothing other than spend time with your family. Today, Michelle and I got to spend the day together because the girls still had to go to school. After sleeping in past 9:00, we got up, did some cleaning and headed out to a beautiful, old town called Poffabro. Poffabro is a gorgeous little village nestled up against the Dolomites, only about a 10 minute drive from our house. After sitting at an outside cafe having a Spritz con Aperol (white wine with orange liquor), we set out for a little exploring. We stumbled upon a Bed and Breakfast we'd seen once before, and actually spoke to the owners. Of course, they didn't speak a lick of English, but over the next 45 minutes, we were offered wine, grappa, and caffe(espresso). We decided on an espresso and reserved a room for my Uncle Tony and Aunt MaryAnne for next month when they come to visit us from the States. We know they'll love the getaway as much as we did... I'm sure of it. Here's a few pictures Tony and MaryAnne. Can't wait until you come for a visit!

Hello to the Giles family.

My daughter found your blog and we are so excited to say hello to you. My father was born in Poffabro in l905... the Lorenzon house near the piazza still is in the family and our extended family supports it and visits when we can.

I'm thrilled to be going in late September for 3 weeks (haven't been in 5 years). Husband, two dauthers, their husbands, twin granddaughters, Hannah and Lena who are 7 and grandson Gavin who will be 22 months by then will all converge too.

I'd love to hear from you..and would hope to share some stories, and perhaps dinner in our house while we are there.

What a wonderful blog your family has! I recently was pointed in your direction by my family who has roots in Poffabro! I'm so glad you've discovered what a charming litle town it is. Although it's hard to say any one town is more charming than another. I look forward to reading more of your adventures this summer!
